Timetabling and contact time reviews

Timetabling, curriculum and contact time reviews are hot topics at the moment. With the pressure on to keep fees down all schools are having to review their largest cost – teaching staff. Many schools have allowed their curriculum and subject choices to expand too far, they have handed out contact time remissions too widely and have not examined closely enough whether non-teachers can carry out jobs currently undertaken by teachers.

Baines Cutler has unique knowledge of the contact time and timetabling arrangements in use in the independent schools’ sector. Our ground-breaking Teacher Salary and Benefits Surveys examine the extent to which contact time remissions were given for certain roles, how different schools manage their timetabling and the extent of non-teacher involvement in traditional teacher roles e.g. housemasters, careers advice, exams etc.

Since carrying out the survey we have been asked by many schools to work with them on timetabling, curriculum and contact time reviews. As part of this work our team includes Andrew Gaylor, formerly Deputy Head (Academic) at Mill Hill School and Ken Evans, formerly Deputy Head (Academic) at the Licenced Victuallers' School, Ascot. We have developed a detailed planning tool to help schools review this area. If you would like to find out more about our services or discuss your requirements please Contact Tim with your issues
